athāhamuttaraṅ dēvyā punarukta ssasambhramam | tava snēhānnaravyāghra sauhārdādanumānya vai || 1
Hanuman continued to speak to Rama: "O Rama, as you have great affection and friendship with me, Sita Devi added further to her message." (1)
ēvaṅ bahuvidhaṅ vācyō rāmō dāśarathistvayā | yathā māmāpnuyācchīghraṅ hatvā rāvaṇamāhavē || 2
"You must speak to Rāma, the son of Daśaratha, in various ways so that he may quickly defeat Rāvaṇa in battle and recover me." (2)
yadi vā manyasē vīra vasaikāhamarindama | kasmiṅścitsaṅvṛtē dēśē vikrāntaśśvō gamiṣyasi || 3
"Hanumān, destroyer of enemies, if you think it proper, please stay for one day in some secret place. You will depart tomorrow after regaining your strength." (3)
mama cāpyalpabhāgyāyāssānnidhyāttava vīryavan | asya śōkavipākasya muhūrtaṅ syādvimōkṣaṇam || 4
"O powerful one, for an unfortunate person like me, your presence would grant me a momentary respite from the burden of this sorrow." (4)
gatē hi tvayi vikrāntē punarāgamanāya vai | prāṇānāmapi sandēhō mama syānnātra saṅśayaḥ || 5
"For if you, the mighty one, depart now with the intention of returning, there is no doubt that my life will be in peril." (5)
tavādarśanajaśśōkō bhūyō māṅ paritāpayēt | duḥkhāddhuḥkhaparābhūtāṅ durgatāṅ duḥkhabhāginīm || 6
"O Hanuman, your departure would rob me of the chance to see you again, causing my current suffering to surge and drown me entirely in its flow." (6)
ayaṅ ca vīra sandēhastiṣṭhatīva mamāgrataḥ | sumahāṅstvatsahāyēṣu haryṛkṣēṣu harīśvara || 7 kathaṅ nu khalu duṣpāraṅ tariṣyanti mahōdadhim | tāni haryṛkṣasainyāni tau vā naravarātmajau || 8
"And this great doubt, O harīśvara, stands before me regarding your allies, the Vanaras and bears. How indeed will that army of vanaras, or Rama and Lakshmana, cross the ocean which is so difficult to traverse?" (7 - 8)
trayāṇāmēva bhūtānāṅ sāgarasyāsya laṅghanē | śaktissyādvainatēyasya tava vā mārutasya vā || 9
"Only three beings possess the power to cross this vast ocean: Vainateya (Garuda), you, or your father Vayu (the Wind God)." (9)
tadasmin kāryaniryōgē vīraivaṅ duratikramē | kiṅ paśyasi samādhānaṅ brūhi kāryavidāṅ varaḥ || 10
"This mission is incredibly daunting, O Hanuman. Given its formidable difficulty, I ask you, the most knowledgeable of all those who act: what is your plan to accomplish this task?" (10)
kāmamasya tvamēvaikaḥ kāryasya parisādhanē | paryāptaḥ paravīraghna yaśasyastē balōdayaḥ || 11
"Truly, you alone are sufficient for the successful completion of this mission, O destroyer of mighty foes. Your display of strength brings you great renown." (11)
balai ssamagrairyadi māṅ hatvā rāvaṇamāhavē | vijayī svāṅ purīṅ rāmō nayēttatsyādyaśaskaram || 12
"If Rama, leading his full forces, were to defeat Ravana in combat and then, as the victor, escort me back to his capital—that would be the path to true fame and glory." (12)
yathā.haṅ tasya vīrasya vanādupadhinā hṛtā | rakṣasā tadbhayādēva tathā nārhati rāghavaḥ || 13
"I was seized from the forest through the deceit of that Rakshasa. It would be dishonorable for Rama to simply reclaim me; he must not be subjected to the same kind of trickery or shame. He must defeat the Rakshasa openly." (13)
balaistu saṅkulāṅ kṛtvā laṅkāṅ parabalārdanaḥ | māṅ nayēdyadi kākutsthaḥ tat tasya sadṛśaṅ bhavēt || 14
"It would be a fitting and honorable act for Rama, the conqueror of enemy forces, to first overwhelm and occupy Lanka with his army and only then escort me back." (14)
tadyathā tasya vikrāntam anurūpaṅ mahātmanaḥ | bhavēdāhavaśūrasya tathā tvamupapādaya || 15
"Therefore, O Hanuman, I ask you to formulate a plan that will be truly worthy of the great-souled Rama's valor and his reputation as a champion in battle." (15)
tadarthōpahitaṅ vākyaṅ praśritaṅ hētusaṅhitam | niśamyahaṅ tata śśēṣaṅ vākyamuttaramabruvam || 16
"Upon hearing her words—which were highly pertinent to the mission, spoken with humility, and grounded in sound reasoning—I then prepared and delivered my final, concluding response." (16)
dēvi haryṛkṣasainyānāmīśvaraḥ plavatāṅ varaḥ | sugrīvassattvasampannastavārthē kṛtaniścayaḥ || 17
"O Devi, be assured that Sugriva—the mighty, resolute King of the Vānaras and the bear army, and the greatest of all vanaras—is fully determined to ensure your release." (17)
tasya vikramasampannāḥ sattvavantō mahābalāḥ | mana ssaṅkalpasampātā nidēśē harayaḥ sthitāḥ || 18
"Under his command stand Vanaras endowed with valor, immense strength, and firm resolve. They possess the power to move with the speed of thought, ready to execute his every order." (18)
yēṣāṅ nōpari nādhastānna tiryaksajjatē gatiḥ | na ca karmasu sīdanti mahatsvamitatējasaḥ || 19
"Their movement is utterly unhindered—they are unobstructed whether they travel upward, downward, or across any plane. Possessing great and boundless energy, these warriors never fail in their appointed tasks." (19)
asakṛttairmahābhāgaiḥ vānarairbaladarpitaiḥ | pradakṣiṇīkṛtā bhūmiḥ vāyumārgānusāribhiḥ || 20
"These high-minded Vānaras, who are proud of their boundless might and who travel swiftly along the paths of the wind, have, on countless occasions, completely circled the Earth." (20)
madviśiṣṭāśca tulyāśca santi tatra vanaukasaḥ | mattaḥ pratyavaraḥ kaścinnāsti sugrīvasannidhau || 21
"In Sugriva's army, there are countless Vānaras who are my equals, and even some who surpass me in ability. Be assured, however, that not a single Vānara there is inferior to me." (21)
ahaṅ tāvadiha prāptaḥ kiṅ punastē mahābalāḥ | na hi prakṛṣṭāḥ prētyantē prēṣyantē hītarē janāḥ || 22
"Since I, a mere emissary, have succeeded in reaching you, you should not doubt the arrival of those truly mighty heroes. Our practice is not to send our very best on initial missions; rather, we dispatch others. Therefore, if I could make it, their success is assured." (22)
tadalaṅ paritāpēna dēvi manyurvyapaitu tē | ēkōtpātēna tē laṅkāmēṣyanti hariyūthapāḥ || 23
"O Devi, you must stop grieving; let all your anxiety vanish! The powerful Vānara chiefs will arrive here in Lanka with a single, massive leap to complete their mission for you." (23)
mama pṛṣṭhagatau tau ca candrasūryāvivōditau | tvatsakāśaṅ mahābhāgē nṛsiṅhāvāgamiṣyataḥ || 24
"O good hearted one, Rama and Lakshmana, who shine with the glory of the rising sun and moon, will ride upon my back and swiftly arrive right here in your presence." (24)
arighnaṅ siṅhasaṅkāśaṅ kṣipraṅ drakṣyasi rāghavam | lakṣmaṇaṅ ca dhanuṣpāṇiṅ laṅkādvāramupasthitam || 25
"You will very soon see Rama, the destroyer of foes and a hero like a lion, with Lakshmana, bow in hand, standing right at the gates of Lanka." (25)
nakhadaṅṣṭrāyudhān vīrān siṅhaśārdūlavikramān | vānarānvāraṇōndrābhān kṣipraṅ drakṣasi saṅgatān || 26
"You will soon witness the arrival of the united Vānara army: brave heroes whose claws and fangs are their weapons, whose valor rivals that of lions and tigers, and whose forms are as colossal as powerful elephants." (26)
śailāmbudanikāśānāṅ laṅkāmalayasānuṣu | nardatāṅ kapimukhyānām acirācchrōṣyasi svanam || 27
"In a short time, you will hear the triumphant roar of the Vānara leaders—warriors as immense as mountains and storm clouds—shouting from the very peaks of Lanka's Malaya mountain range." (27)
nivṛttavanavāsaṅ ca tvayā sārdhamarindamam | abhiṣiktamayōdhyāyāṅ kṣipraṅ drakṣyasi rāghavam || 28
"You will soon behold Rama, the mighty conqueror of foes, having successfully completed his term of exile, and you will be with him when he is crowned King of Ayodhya." (28)
tatō mayā vāgbhiradīnabhāṣiṇā śivābhiriṣṭābhirabhiprasāditā | jagāma śāntiṅ mama maithilātmajā tavāpi śōkēna tadābhipīḍitā || 29
"Upon hearing my resolute, reassuring, and comforting words, the daughter of Mithila (Sita) even though she remained afflicted by the agony of separation from you, finally found a measure of peace." (29)
